§02 · Approach

How Inland Regional Center works.

Inland Regional Center (IRC), formally Inland Counties Regional Center, Inc., is a government-funded not-for-profit public benefit corporation established in 1972 under California's Lanterman Act. Operating as a regional center agency, IRC provides case management and service coordination for individuals with developmental disabilities across San Bernardino and Riverside Counties in Southern California's Inland Empire.

IRC serves more than 60,000 consumers, making it the largest of California's 21 regional centers. The organization supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other developmental conditions. Through a network of internal staff and over 4,000 contracted service providers, IRC arranges and coordinates access to therapeutic services, residential support, employment assistance, and other community-based resources.

The organization employs approximately 1,400–1,500 staff members and maintains its headquarters in San Bernardino, where it has operated since 1996. IRC's mission centers on facilitating greater independence and community integration for the individuals and families it serves. The agency works collaboratively with consumers, families, regional center staff, and service providers to develop individualized service plans and coordinate care.

Its been nearly 8 months and still waiting. After several calls and emails, there's been no accountability. I had plans to to move within county but because of this process no more an option. Instead of losing sanity in this process, it will be better to move to another county.

My experience with this organization has been extremely frustrating and concerning, particularly as a parent and advocate for a disabled adult. Instead of focusing on timely services and meaningful resolution, I experienced repeated delays, shifting procedural demands, and an emphasis on technical barriers rather than addressing the underlying needs of the individual they serve. Communication often felt adversarial rather than supportive, even when good-faith efforts were made to comply with requirements. What was most disappointing was the lack of urgency and compassion shown in a situation involving disability-related services. The process felt unnecessarily prolonged, and it appeared that procedural maneuvering took priority over problem-solving or collaboration. Families navigating disability services already face immense stress. I would encourage others to document everything carefully, seek independent guidance, and be prepared for a process that may be far more difficult than expected. I hope this organization reflects on how its practices impact the people and families who rely on it.

A pleasure to work with. They treat their clients with dignity and respect. They help their clients and their caregivers as they can and how they can. Every person in any department I ever talked too was always helpful and kind. 5 stars!

My brother’s service coordinator was very communicative in the beginning but now she does not respond to calls or emails. I don’t know who I need to get a hold of but I have sent emails directly to IRC but they only respond to tell you that you did something wrong and then they ignore you once you provide them the correct information.

After 20 yrs of experience I can say they hurt us more than helped us. I BEG THE NEWLY DIAGNOSED DO NOT THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE SUPPORT YOU NEED . THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO HELP WITH TONS OF THINGS BUT ARE TRAINED TO LITERALLY TALK AROUND IT AND TALK TO OUT OF HELP . THE WORKER I HAD SUGGESTED IT WAS JUST EASIER TO PUT MY SON IN A GROUP HOME . MIND YOU IT WAS A MENTAL HEALTH RELATED ISSUE THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP SUPPORT ME AND IM ALSO ON THE SPECTRUM .Now I'm struggling with my health bc of the continuous years of being unsupported.Oh yeah and school stuff they might show to an IEP they might not. They basically just kick back and agree with the school for us THEY AGREED MY SON DIDN'T NEED ANY OT BCUZ HE DIDN'T NEED TO BE ABLE TO WRITE IN THE FUTURE .They might call back but it will NEVER be an answer to your question it will just b call me back and there is a 50/50 the phones are down .
