§ The five-point check

What we actually verify.

The same five checks for every listing, run by software wherever software can confirm them. Where a check doesn’t apply - software has no NPI - it says so.

Identity & ownership
The listing has an owner account, and we record how that owner proved control of the business when claiming it: a work email at the listing’s own domain, a code sent to its published phone number, or its Google Business Profile. An owner attached by hand passes only if their own email is at the listing’s domain.

Domain & business email
Someone on the listing’s team signs in with an email at the same domain as its website - Gmail, Wix and other shared hosts never count - and the website loads over HTTPS with a valid certificate.

Credentials & licensure
A clinic’s NPI is looked up in the federal NPPES registry, and the registry’s name and location must match the listing. A missing or mismatched NPI, and a school’s state approval, go to a reviewer. BACB certifications are not machine-checked - the BACB offers no public lookup - so each certification number on a profile links to the BACB’s own registry instead. Not applicable to software.

Profile evidence
The owner has confirmed the profile - at least 70% of the decision facts for its listing type saved by the owner in the ABA Rank dashboard since claiming, not just filled in by our research - with a website, a description and a primary category, and for clinics a location and the insurance they accept or their self-pay rates. A linked Google Business Profile is recorded when there is one.

Continuity
A pass lasts a year, and the re-check starts on its own 30 days before it runs out. A change of owner, website domain, name or NPI after a pass starts a fresh review within a day, and a reviewer confirms the change.

§ Trust

A trust mark with a date behind it.

The Verified mark appears on your profile and in category lists, and your profile’s verification section shows the date your review passed and what it checked. Until it passes, it says the review is in progress.

§ Visibility

A trust signal buyers can check.

The verification section names which of the five checks your review covered and when it passed, so a family or buyer can see what the mark stands for. It does not change ranked position - nothing paid does - but it is the difference between a claim and a checked claim.

A dated verification on the public record.

The check publishes its result as a date on your profile, readable by anyone comparing options and by any crawler that reads the page. It buys no Index points: methodology v3.1 retired the verification-recency term, so the ranked list is reviews, completeness and category fit, and nothing on this page moves it.

Common questions.

What people ask before they hit the Verify button.

How is ABA Rank Verified different from accreditation?
Accreditation evaluates clinical practice against a standard such as BHCOE or CARF. ABA Rank Verified checks the listing itself: that the business controls it, that its domain, business email and website hold up, that a clinic’s NPI matches the federal NPPES registry, that the profile is substantially complete, and that none of that has changed since the last pass. The two are complementary: a clinic can be accredited but unverified, or verified but not yet accredited.
Can ABA Rank Verified be purchased?
You buy the review, not the result. The Verified plan carries a $490 annual fee and starts the five-point check the moment it is active; the profile shows the date the review passed only once every check has cleared, and says the review is in progress until then. A failed review is refunded.
Does Verified change a vendor's ranking on ABA Rank?
No. The public Index is Reviews (60) + Decision facts (35) + Primary-category fit (5), fully disclosed on the How we rank page, and verification is not among its inputs. Methodology v3.1 retired the verification-recency term it used to feed: that term was scored from a date almost no listing had, so it paid points by accident of seeding rather than for anything a provider did. Verified buys the review itself and the trust marker, and has no effect on Index score or ranked position.
How long does ABA Rank Verified review take?
The automated checks start as soon as the subscription is active and usually finish within a minute; when they all pass, the date appears on the profile straight away. Anything software cannot confirm - a missing NPI, a school’s state approval, an ownership claim that was never proven - goes to an ABA Rank reviewer, and the dashboard and a follow-up email say exactly what is needed. The review completes once that item is resolved.
What happens if a Verified listing changes hands?
A change of owner account, website domain, listing name or NPI after a review has passed starts a fresh review within a day, and a reviewer confirms the change. Until that review passes, the profile says the verification is in progress instead of showing the earlier date.
Can a Verified review be rejected or revoked?
Yes. A reviewer can reject a review with a check that cannot be cleared, and can withdraw one that has passed - for falsified evidence or a substantiated complaint - and in both cases the profile stops showing a verification date. A pass also lapses after a year if the re-check does not pass. None of this moves a listing in the ranking, because verification is not an Index input.
