YAI Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and supporting their integration into community life. Originally founded in 1957 as the Young Adult Institute by Bert MacLeech and Pearl Maze MacLeech with just seven clients in Brooklyn, YAI has grown into a major provider operating across multiple states.
The organization offers a comprehensive range of services designed to enable individuals with I/DD to live, work, learn, and participate fully in their communities. YAI's service portfolio includes residential programs, day services, educational programs, employment support, crisis intervention, behavior management services, and medical and dental care. The organization serves people of all ages, from children through adults.
YAI operates through a network structure that includes multiple affiliated agencies: YAI (the primary organization), Premier HealthCare, Manhattan Star Academy, National Institute for People with Disabilities of New Jersey (NIPD/NJ), and International Academy of Hope (iHOPE). This network approach allows YAI to provide integrated, coordinated care across different regions and service areas.
With headquarters at 220 East 42nd Street in New York City, YAI operates more than 300 individual programs and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community. I had an amazing experience working with Charmey and Jessica Green. From start to finish, they were incredibly helpful and made the onboarding process smooth, fast, and stress-free. They move quickly, stay on top of everything, and are extremely responsive. Any time I had a question or needed support, they were right there. Their communication is outstanding , clear, professional, and genuinely supportive. You can truly tell they care — not just about getting people placed, but about their staff and the community as a whole. That level of dedication is rare and very appreciated. If anyone is looking for a job and wants to work with people who are reliable, efficient, and truly invested in helping you succeed, Charmey and Jessica are absolutely the go-to. A few years back I attempted to use these services for my child. I received awesome service to set up appointments and was happy with communication at the start. There was a long wait for everything but that seemed understandable. To move on after my child's 1rst evaluation, I was seen by Simone Francis. She seemed frustrated and had an attitude that did not fit the job description. I was alarmed at once and even my child expressed to me about the arrogant character of this person. I decided to let the scheduler know of my concerns and asked that my child have a new counselor to handle her case. After this request we did not receive services. The ball was dropped completely. This was an unprofessional and petty move and I want to warn fellow parents . The ego of some will destroy them. The amazing thing is that God is watching and of course there are many professionals qualified to help and they did, just not at YAI. No wonder they have such a low rating...
