How Child Serve works.
ChildServe is a nonprofit pediatric healthcare provider that has served children with special healthcare needs since 1928. Originally founded as a convalescent home, the organization has evolved into Iowa's leading provider of specialized clinical, rehabilitative, and behavioral health services for children and young adults.
The organization delivers comprehensive autism and behavioral health services to nearly 5,800 children annually through multiple evidence-based approaches, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS), Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research (STAR), Project IMPACT, and AutPlay. ChildServe's clinical team includes Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Registered Behavior Technicians, clinical psychologists, mental health therapists, social workers, and speech, occupational, and physical therapists.
ChildServe operates with a multi-site service delivery model, providing center-based, home-based, and school-based programs from locations in Johnston, Ames, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City. The organization maintains CARF Accreditation in 11 service areas, including autism, brain injury, and inpatient rehabilitation, ensuring quality and accountability across all programs.

They care more about your insurance information than evaluating your child. I was hounded for 2 weeks about who my insurance was (when I gave the information when I made the appointment) only to show up for my 9am appointment and then to tell me it was at 12:30. I never would have agreed to an appointment at that time because of my work schedule and where I work. I had to take a half day for nothing. They are rude and can’t even seem to figure out their scheduling. Could thing they spent so much time calling me about my insurance when they should have been calling and confirming appointments

We have a special needs Granddaughter that absolutely LOVES the staff, other children and the fun activities. She spends a weekend a month there and always returns home with a huge smile. Staff seem loving, patient and, very good with our Granddaughter. Thank you for what you do and how well you do it.

Great place for kids with special needs. The receptionist up front main building a great. The building is nice and they offer a wide variety of services. From summer camp (held at the Zion church) to dog therapy and respite services. My son attend therapy there for a few years. Most of the therapists were great and he made great strides. The Respite service is in house and decent for the most part. My son didn't care for the institution like atmosphere. Camp is every summer and they do quite a lot of activities. The biggest issue is that the church that they use isn't the cleanest. Otherwise for the two years my son attended, he had a good time. Oh great staff and most also work as staff at the respite center at Childserve.
