Cornerstones

Cornerstones is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting self-sufficiency and community well-being through comprehensive human services. Originally established in 1970 as Reston Interfaith, the organization changed its name to Cornerstones to reflect its expanded mission and role as a cornerstone organization in Northern Virginia.

The organization provides a wide range of services designed to address fundamental human needs and strengthen families and communities. These services include emergency food assistance, emergency shelter, affordable housing programs, financial assistance, quality childcare and youth services, and community resource centers that connect individuals with essential support.

Cornerstones operates across northwest Fairfax County, serving residents in Reston, Herndon, Centreville, Chantilly, and the Towns of Herndon and Vienna. The organization has established itself as a leading anchor institution in the region, reaching almost 26,000 households annually and demonstrating significant impact over more than five decades of continuous operation.

The organization is known for its commitment to addressing root causes of poverty and homelessness while building pathways to self-sufficiency. Through its integrated service model, Cornerstones supports individuals and families at various life stages and circumstances, from emergency crisis intervention to long-term housing stability and economic empowerment programs.
