I'm motivated enough by my school's experiences with this company to hop on a throwaway account just to leave them a review. This is a horrible, horrible agency. I've been working in schools in a clerical capacity since 2005, I've seen a fair number of behavior intervention specialists in my time – and in turn, I've had dealings with a number of agencies that provide psych services. Intercare, far and away, is the worst I've ever experienced. As far as the individual people they send us, they've been fine for the most part. But an inevitable part of human life is, sometimes you have to be absent from work. Maybe you have a family thing that comes up, maybe you're sick. It happens to all of us. Intercare, for whatever reason, does not know this. Over the course of the last two years, since we started working with them, they have sent us a substitute behaviorist once. One time. Other times, when a behaviorist has to be out for whatever reason, we are on our own and they do not send us coverage. Reliably, if a behaviorist lets the agency know ahead of time that they need to be out, my school will not be notified. One of our behaviorists was kind enough today to call our office and let us know she would be out ill – and she told us that Intercare specifically asks their behaviorists not to reach out to the school directly. For some reason. Calling their office is also a tricky proposition, because they often will not answer the phone. If we do get through, often the person we speak with on the other end of the line seems clueless or uninformed about the behaviorist absence that we're calling to inquire about. If it were up to me, I would never use Intercare... but for some reason, LAUSD is just fine wasting money on their terrible service. If you're a parent and have any say in the agency that provides help to your child, DO NOT USE INTERCARE.
We chose them because it fits our schedule. First BI was ok, our son wasnt engaging more with her but its understood since it was only 2 weeks or so. But she resigned and we got a substitute BI. Our son seems to engage with her more and listens to her most of the time. My only complain is she doesnt come on time. Eventhough we talked to the supervisor already about it. They also lack communication. They wouldnt know if a BI had cancelled a session or would find out late. My wife would wake up early enough to prepare before session and most of the or all the time the sessions are late. I wouldnt say its all a bad experience but they need to work on communication and punctuality.
The BT was good with my son, however the leadership was horrible to us. I can't believe that a place like this that should offer support and hope gave us unorganized service, poor communication and ultimately even more sadness and hindrance than I would have expected. They were unable to make a personalized plan for my child and tried to force me to withhold affection and use it as an incentive. When I said I was uncomfortable with that plan they told me that they would no longer work with my sweet boy just diagnosed with severe Autism this year. This was the first place I went with as my insurance said that was their choice, now that I am more informed, I have found other ABA providers that do not agree with what we went through with Intercare Therapy and we are on our way to finding the right fit for us. So if I can thank them for anything, it’s the poor experience that led me to finding the perfect fit. I would never recommend this company and have passed on what happened to me to my community center board, social media and autism parent support groups. I hope no other parent ever has to go through this on top of the new challenges they are already faced with.
The therapists and staff at Intercare Therapy are professional, knowledgeable and conscientious. They've helped me create a better connection with my son, and given me the tools to continue their good work.
