As a professional heard about SAS Software time and again but it was the first time got an opportunity to move around its Campus. After taking permission from the front entrance gate, one can enter inside the campus which is simply The Best. Never been to such beautiful, neat and clean, full of greenery, excellent plantations all around, beautiful buildings, cafeteria and what not. Previously, SAS was known as Statistical Analysis System; its software's are being used across the World. SAS is a software suite developed by SAS Institute. Its SW is used for business intelligence, multivariate analyses, data management, predictive analytics and for other advanced analytics. During 1966 to 1976, it was located in NC State University when SAS Institute was incorporated. It has added many modules to its SW over a period of time. It is simply, one of the best companies of the World. Visit the campus and see the beauty, How tastefully it has been designed and developed. Inside the campus, it has got everything from a school to Gym to cafeteria. Its buildings are named as SAS Building ‘F’, ‘J’, ‘R’, Parking Deck, SAS IN School etc. SAS has more than 14 thousand employees and its revenue in 2016 was US $ 3.2 billion and it is the world's largest privately held software business & its software is used by most of the Fortune 500 Companies. SAS might proclaim that they are the leader in business analytics and such, however, their software will require extensive training before your people can use it. Compared to other software packages I tested that have the same capacity, this software is more expensive and far less user friendly (take the training requirements into consideration when you estimate the costs of the various programs you are comparing). Even visual based program modules often require you to add scripted code fragments that form the core of the software (SAS basic). This are aspects that other vendors have been able to make user friendly, so it is not that this is not possible. I suspect it is the general expert programmer mind set of SAS that drives these idiosyncratic aspects. Large consumers can afford to have a trained SAS specialist, but many smaller consumers cannot. Not recommended for companies that cannot afford to pay for the expensive training of their people each time a new person needs to use the software. There are very good alternatives out there that are far more user friendly and cost about half of what SAS costs (especially yearly renewal fees). SAS representatives tried to tell me that they have user friendly programs, but when I asked for an evaluation copy of Enterprise Miner, they rather would not give it because it could not be used just like that. I insisted and had to experience that they are right. The software is for people who either use other SAS modules on a daily basis, or who can afford to spend thousands to train their people in using the software. So, knowing other software packages that are more affordable and user friendly, while having the same capabilities as SAS, safe yourself the money and frustrations, and go with a program that actually is affordable and user friendly.
