My son broke his arm and we had never been through anything like this before so it was all new and kind of scary they had to put him under to reset his bones and cast his arm,as a nervous wreck of a mom I can say everyone we came across in the hospital and who worked with us and on my son was an absolute angel! I went from being extremely nervous to feeling comfortable instantly and the way they handled my son was outstanding I'm so grateful to them.

I wanted to believe this hospital was better because they use to be. I brought my 2 year old in for some issues, the took us out of the emergency room and made us walk across the entire hospital because they did not have any open rooms apparently. Which I found out was wrong because I had to walk through the emergency room area to have her stomach xray done and roughly 10 rooms that I seen, was definitely empty. A doctor never got to examine her, she only saw a nurse. They proceeded to say these symptoms were caused by constipation. I would love to know how pink eye mucus coming out of the eye is caused by constipation. Which if she was as severely constipated and dehydrated as they said, why was we sent home to do a clean out that could completely dehydrate her even worse. The staff are very undertrained and not kind at all. If the lack of sympathy and education causes harm to my child by the treatment plan they set up, I will make sure they take responsibility for the actions they chose. In the end, we never really figured out the real issue.

The ER is a joke and I don’t know how they are still open. Their staff is incompetent. Rude and very uncaring. I brought my kid to the ER with a high fever of 104.5. The staff memeber that brought us back to a room to be checked completely LIED about my son’s temperature. She checked it and said he didn’t have a fever, which I knew was wrong. I asked her what it was and she said it’s in Celsius so I will have to put it in the computer to convert it to Fahrenheit, but I think it’s 98.8 degrees Fahrenheit, I looked at the thermometer and it was 39.5 degrees Celsius, which is 103.1 degrees Fahrenheit! She was going to lie and put my son’s fever was 98.8 degrees Fahrenheit in his chart and they would have sent us home. I spoke up and told her that she was absolutely wrong and I needed a real nurse. A nurse came in and checked my son’s temperature rectally, and it was 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The most least caring staff. I understand they go through a lot, but that is a part of their job. We are supposed to be able to seek comfort knowing our children are under great care, but they are under the care of liars and people who only care about a paycheck, not the well being of our children. I looked at my sons clinical notes after they sent us home and they put he was smiling and happy during his visit, which is a lie. He was MISERABLE! They told me not to bring him back unless he has a fever of 105 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 days. My son is only 16 months old. On top of the fever, he had a rash, nosebleed, and ear redness. They gave him Tylenol and Motrin to get his fever down to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and then sent him home. I’ve been alternating Tylenol and Motrin for days at home, which would slightly decrease his fever before spiking right back up. We were at the ER for 8 hours and never received proper care. The staff asked the same questions 100 times over again and still didn’t document the correct answers in his chart. I normally don’t write reviews or complain, but how they treated us and our son was disgusting.

I can not say enough nice things about the team at Dayton Children's Hospital. My grandson was taken to the ED on Thursday night with a high fever and rapid breathing after being diagnosed with RSV on Wednesday. He admitted because his oxygen was very low and unstable. Every person involved with his care, from the person checking him in, the respiratory team, the nurses, the doctors, the patient care team, the cafeteria team and the cleaning team, they were extremely kind and helpful the whole time we were there. With the halls full of sick kids they were attentive, patient, friendly, and knowledgeable the entire stay. I am so thankful to them. 🩵

This review is specific to cardiologist Dr. Smita Mehta. Regarding Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I brought my kid to get diagnosed because I have it and she has worse symptoms than me. This dr told my teen she has the BP of a 2 yr old, she said she was shocked my kid could even smile. She told my kid she wont diagnose her because drs wont see anything else if diagnosed. She said all hydration drinks (Gatorade, liquid iv, body Armour etc) will test positive for drugs. She told my kid to eat more salt and drink JUST ENOUGH WATER TO QUENCH THIRST (that's extremely dangerous). And when my kid said she seemed like a dr that cared (my kid is naive) the dr actually had the nerve to say "oh honey I am here for the money, I wouldn't be here otherwise". The only reason I didn't bring this concern up sooner (November) is because we had a car crash into our home 2 days prior so I was dealing with a lot already. So now our choice is drive hours to find a dr office that will diagnose her properly or wait until she turns 18 so she can see an adult cardiologist. That's what I get for trying to be proactive.
