Association for Behavior Analysis International

The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) is a nonprofit professional membership organization that serves behavior analysts, researchers, and practitioners worldwide. Founded in 1974 as the MidWestern Association for Behavior Analysis, the organization expanded internationally and relocated to Portage, Michigan, in 2008, where it maintains its headquarters with a staff of approximately 20 professionals.

ABAI is the primary professional organization in the behavior analysis field, with over 9,000 active members and 28,000 affiliate members. The association advances the discipline through multiple channels: hosting a prestigious biennial international conference that draws thousands of attendees, publishing six peer-reviewed journals including The Analysis of Verbal Behavior and Behavior Analysis in Practice, and maintaining special interest groups focused on clinical and applied topics.

The organization plays a critical role in professional standards and education. Since 1993, ABAI has accredited quality higher-education programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Additionally, ABAI is recognized by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) as a primary source of continuing education credits, supporting the ongoing professional development of certified behavior analysts.

ABAI serves a diverse audience including academic researchers, clinical practitioners, educators, and students in behavior analysis. The organization facilitates networking, knowledge dissemination, and collaboration among professionals dedicated to understanding and applying behavioral principles across clinical, educational, organizational, and community settings.
