This place was very rude. The 2 women where very skitish while asking questions they cut me off and locked the door with out transparency. I have aspburgers.
This STAR of CA location is their headquarters and the center’s very first school for children with autism in Ventura County which started in April 2023. They specialize in providing treatment and learning services for children on the spectrum. It is similar to Cortica in Westlake Village which is quite a hectic commute 5 days a week if you live in Ventura. The Speech, Music, Occupational Therapists staff here are licensed and certified professionals who help medically diagnosed children progress and advance with their overall communication skills so they can thrive in living a normal life. These therapists specializes in their field, gifted and patient in taking care of children with special abilities. The STAR of CA has other locations in Southern and Northern California but with the success of this school for children with autism, they have plans in opening more services like this location to assist families who need such educational and treatment center that may not be available for kids in their area.
I was referred to this place to get help for my family member who was Diagnosed in the jail and treated at the state hospital. Terms of his release were Medication Maintenance. This place turned him away. Now I was told it was due to insurance which is still unclear.(which is patient dumping) I spoke to thee Administrator and was told it was due to a score of a questionnaire that the person scored low on which means he wasn’t a good candidate for the program nor a high priority and couldn’t see a doctor. She mentioned he was given other programs to look into. When I asked,”How is Schizophrenia not a high priority? This person spent a year getting stable on meds you’re telling me he scored low and can’t be seen so he has to be in an active phase of Schizophrenia for any organization to treat him?” She blamed the state! So far not a single organization that is funded to help is able to help. All of them point fingers or take NO ACCOUNTABILITY! My advice: Go through the jail or a state hospital pay a private Psychiatrist for a monthly visit and medication maintenance. These people DO NOT care about your loved ones! They’re very quick to say,”You can go to the ER and get meds!” I understand the Mental Health System is flawed. If people are released and aren’t able to get the treatment they need from the programs that are supposed to help provide it they’re better off staying in jail and that funding going to the jail. It’s the jail and state hospitals that are stabilizing these patients!
