Sending my non-verbal , level 3 autistic child to their Autism Day Treatment Program was a huge mistake. After being accepted into the program (after being on the waitlist for 5-6 months) we were brought in for an appointment to discuss my child’s current behavior, needs, strengths and weaknesses. I was very clear that my son was coming from a program that was only 2 days a week for 2 hours with only 2-3 kids in the classroom so this was going to be a huge change for him as this is everyday, 4 hours a day with double the classroom size. The teacher and supervisor assured me that this would be a perfect fit for him. Well less than 3 months into my son attending the class he was discharged for needing too much 1 on 1 treatment. This discharge was extremely surprising to me as everyday during pickup, notes written home, and in biweekly meetings I was told that he was having great days, and only disregulated for some of class. During my last bi-weekly meeting with the supervisor I was told that my son is disregulated for most of the class and just requiring too much 1 on 1 which the supervisor claims is not what their program is intended to be. The supervisor then told me that they think it would be best that he be discharged from the program and go back to 1 on 1 speech and occupational therapy twice a week. She then asked for my opinion on the decision as if it wasn’t already made for me. I expressed my concerned with this and recommended other options but kept receiving the same answer of this program is not intended for the 1 on 1 my son is requiring. I can’t believe that this is an autism program. Clearly they are not familiar or qualified enough to deal with a level 3, non verbal four year old. The communication between the teachers and supervisor is absolutely horrible. I wish I would have read the reviews before putting my child in this program as I have read multiple other comments about children being discharged from the program abruptly for requiring more needs than they can provide and for horrible communication. My sons last day of class was today and we walked in to his locker decorated for his last day. He then received a paper with photos from his short time in class and a note stating he will be missed and had the nerve to include an emoji of a graduating cap as if he graduated the program vs being kicked out. What an absolute joke. So glad my son is not attending this organization anymore.
Dog leashes for kids. No understanding of the therapy they claim to provide. The mental health providers are barley in the classroom. The director is checked out.
Horrible experience they don’t want to help severe autistic children’s instead therapist use a leash on them like dogs to keep them close in the classroom???? And give parents reports how bad they are and finally release them from the program because they do not want to deal with them . they only keep the mild autistic ofcourse less work the director is a joke . I complained about my son treating was inhumane and she did not care . I wish I could sued them and made them pay for the trauma I went through as well my son . Please do not donate to this facility i think it should be investigated for any bad management because is not a good facility talking staff wise I wish I could took pictures back when I saw them treating my son Timothy Henning like a dog thank god I did a surprise visit that day and complain but nothing was fix or done by the director stay away from this place if your kid is not verbal like mine
My son just graduated from preschool and will be starting kindergarten next week at the Minnetonka location! Theresa and the other therapists were so incredible with him!! We will never forget how they changed his life forever! ❤️ (My son was diagnosed with ASD at 18 months old, is non-verbal, and is using a speech language device to talk.)
My child receives great care here and has in multiple ways. The therapists and staff work hard to assist them in their needs. However, communication from St. Davids Center is easily the worst communication I have ever experienced from a location where my children have received therapy. I have also experienced multiple times where receptionists have been rude. Going here is a great and worthwhile for making sure your child receives amazing care, as long as you are able to get over the other stuff. Edit: Great care or not, the communication gets progressively worse, and sometimes it feels as if when change is happening, client care is an afterthought.
