I had a very disappointing experience with ACNC. The clinic did not appear to take a neurodivergent-affirming approach with my teen, and the assessment process felt overly narrow and reductionist. Conclusions were drawn from limited testing without adequately considering his history and lived experience. Additionally, the student assessor and supervisor were dismissive of autistic traits that didn’t fit stereotypical ones associated with young autistic kids. Shortly after this assessment, my son was evaluated at a different clinic and received a more thorough, respectful, and holistic evaluation. That assessment led to conclusions that were different from what ACNC determined. I would strongly encourage ACNC to re-examine their assessment practices, communication style, and commitment to neurodivergent-affirming care.
