I brought my daughter here when we were at a loss as to how to help her. During her time here, the staff was excellent. They treated my child as if she were their own. Any concerns I had were addressed immediately. Today is my daughter’s discharged date and I am amazed how far she has came. She has worked so hard to get to this point with the help of the amazing staff at The Village. I am forever grateful for this team.
My name is austen cox i been there for 1 years my experience with The Village Behavioral Health was very disappointing. From the beginning, I felt like communication was unclear and unorganized. It was hard to get straightforward answers, and I often felt confused about what was happening or what to expect next. For a place that focuses on mental and emotional well-being, I expected much better communication and support. I also felt that my concerns were not taken as seriously as they should have been. At times, it seemed like I was just another number instead of a person going through real struggles. The environment did not feel as welcoming or comforting as I had hoped, which made it harder to open up and feel safe. Another issue for me was the overall structure of the program. There were moments where things felt repetitive or not very helpful to my specific situation. I understand that programs have general approaches, but I didn’t feel like my individual needs were fully understood or addressed in a meaningful way. Overall, I left feeling frustrated and underwhelmed. While others may have different experiences, mine did not meet the expectations I had for a behavioral health facility. I hope improvements can be made in communication, personalization, and overall support so future patients have a better experience.
The Village Behavioral Heath (VBH) was a good fit for our family. Kiddo was there for 4 months and received wonderful care from all of the staff. We are a Reactive Attachment Disorder family and kiddo has co-morbidities that after years of counseling and IOP needed help with. Kiddo felt safe the entire stay. VBH worked with us to cluster visits as we live 7 hours away. The nightly telephone calls were a blessing. The amount of work the counselor was able to do in four months is amazing! We continue and had added therapies post discharge but kiddo has healed so much and our family is calm now. Medication side effects and ineffectiveness were addressed and sorted out. Kiddo continues to have benefits from VBH regiment 5 months out now. The weekend drives to explore KY were the highlight of kiddos week. Kiddo bonded with cabin aids, one night aid especially went above and beyond. If kiddo was embarrassed or needed a hug, kiddo would confide in the beloved cabin night aid. From admittance counselor to post discharge VBH staff are very responsive via email. Due to the basic purpose of VBH, to help emotional wounds of kids who have strong emotional reactions, family sessions were effected. The reschedule was always do to another kiddo having an emergency and needed their counselor at that time, our family session was always made up in a timely manner. Our family would choose VBH again for our 13-14yo.
i will write this as an adult (21)now, who attended this program twice (4 months individually, 8 all together) as a minor . I truthfully hope things have changed . I now realize that what was happening was NOT okay or appropriate. As a teen i thought that it was cool that the tech working in my cabin would bring weed roaches for the kids to smoke in the porta potties/ on the back porch. I thought that it was cool that the techs would go get disposable vapes from the gas station and bring it back for the kids where we would proceed to hit it sitting on the bed . I will say that seeing other kids struggling w similar things and even the complete opposite put into perspective for me that EVERYONE goes through SOMETHING . it made me have a heart for the girls i grew close to and learning their trauma. At the same time when you group together impressionable kids with wildly different reasons for being there you run the risk of unrelated behaviors being picked up. Shout to my therapist, i adored her .Not everyone there was bad . Anyways all that to say is that i hope that the employees currently there take their job seriously . I hope they prioritize the safety & wellbeing of these kids . And i urge parents to do research before sending their child to a residential facility .
The Village gave my child a chance to make it into adulthood alive, which was not there before going. For years my child has struggled with mental health with self harming, self medicating, suicidal ideation and multiple suicide attempts. We did everything we could to help at home with individual therapies, group therapies, IOPs, CTT and so many safety plans. But the roller coaster continued. Calling the crisis line became a regular occurrence. The trips to the ER and being admitted into acute behavioral health care were part of the routine. As a parent watching your child crying out for help, but not able to reach them on any level leaves you feeling helpless, hopeless and failing as a parent. When the decision was made that residential treatment was my child's last hope, it was a new kind of scare. There are so many horror stories of how bad facilities can be and that it did more harm than good. With the help of my child's CTT case manager, I interviewed many facilities. When I interviewed The Village, I felt at ease. The program had more than just a treatment facility feel. My child was there for 5 months. I got daily calls from my child, we had weekly family therapy sessions, regular visits (TAs), and got regular checkins from the school on how classes were going. When I had questions or concerns, the staff was very prompt in responding to me. There were times when my child would fall asleep before calling me, but I would call the nurse's line get an update and they had my child call me as soon as they were available to do so. Even though there are rules around contact, I always felt that I could reach my child. My child got involved with volleyball while there and won a tournament receiving a medal and everything. To point my child is actively seeking out a volleyball club to join. While my child's stay had many ups and downs, I do believe that it was the best decision. The Village provided my child a chance to practice the coping skills in real time as my child's window of tolerance was so small it was almost impossible for us to manage at home. My child still has a lot of work and progress to continue to make now at home. But for the first time in a long time I see my child having a chance of growing up to healthy functional adult.
